Pinworm or Enteroniusvermicularis are mostly experienced by children in Indonesia. This worm is small with a length of about a quarter to half inch. Pinworms infect the intestine, but they often infected people who do not have symptoms at all. At night, female worms move toward the anal canal (rectum) because they want to lay eggs. It is this worm activity that gives the typical symptoms of Kremi worms. The child cannot sleep because his anus is itchy at night. This worm will breed in the human large intestine and they will lay eggs in the area around the anus at night.

Pinworm infections are highly contagious and spread very easy due to lack of hand hygiene in children. The reason is when a child scratches his anus then touches his hand with his friends. Then, the hand is used to eat without washing his hands first. Then, his friends can be infected.

In more detail, they are the following characteristics of children who are caused by pinworms:
  • Stomach ache
  • Nausea
  • Intense itching of the rectal or vaginal opening
  • Cannot sleep because of itching
  • Weight loss or not being fat
  • Diarrhea

It is not such as pinworms, the roundworms include in large and close to the size of earthworms in general. It is also known as Ascaris sp. This worm lives infecting the small intestine and large intestine. They live and breed in the human intestine, but unfortunately they usually do not show typical symptoms, someone can know because they see the presence of worm in the feces that come out.

The symptoms of roundworms include:
  • Stomach ache
  • Nauseous vomit
  • Diarrhea or bloody stool

  • If the amount is large can clog (obstruction) intestine
  • Shortness when it spreads to the lungs
Tapeworm or Taeniasp can attack humans by eating beef or pork containing larvae (cysticercoid) that are not cooked properly. Then these larvae will migrate to the intestines and develop into adult worms.

The symptoms and characteristics of tapeworm infection depend on the type of infection, whether in the intestine or on organs (invasive). They are the following symptoms of tapeworm according to its location.

Tapeworm in the intestine:
  • Stomach ache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Malabsorption of nutrients from food
  • Weight loss

Invasive tapeworm:
  • Neurological symptoms/seizures
  • Fever
  • Mass or lump/cyst
  • Allergic reaction to tape worm larvae
There are two types of hookworm that infect humans. They include Necatoramericanus and Ancylostomaduodenale. The symptoms of hookworm are not specific at first, such as nausea, vomiting, lazy to eat, stomach ache and thin body. The worms will bite the walls of the small intestine to suck human blood and some blood come out into the intestinal lumen, they cause bloody bowel movements. This worm is transmitted through larvae found in the soil, these larvae will affect the skin layer (soles of the feet barefoot) and circulate through blood vessels.

This worm also causes Cutaneous larvae migrans or creeping eruption, there is migration of larvae in the skin (layer skin). They are characterized by abnormalities in the skin in the form of eruption of inflammation in the form of straight or winding protruding above the surface of the skin.
